You Wouldn't Know It Was Filler.5
An excellent story arc topped only by the next one. I think the reason the 2 bount arcs work better than the other filler arcs (the replacement captain and the zanpakto arc) is because they don't really interupt the flow of the story, they simply provide some action between aizen's betrayal and the emergence of the vizoreds and the arrancar.
My only complaint (and it is a small one) is that to me the bount don't really make good villans once you learn their backstory (with the exception of one or two).
Aside from that as I said before this and the following season are the more entertaining of bleach's filler arcs and make for fantastic viewing.

Love Hina Box Set [DVD]

Love Hina Box Set [DVD] review

Customer Reviews

a pleasure to watch5
This Love Hina dvd box is well worth the expense: 24 episodes on 6 dvds with 2 mini documentaries among the extras (an interview with the director of the series and a glimpse at the making of the english audio dub). The adventures of Motoko, Shinobu, Kaolla, Mitsune, Haruka, Mutsumi and especially the relationship between Naru and Keitaro (which becomes more and more complex) is very entertaining. Even though lots of cliches show up (like being cought at the wrong moment on many occasions) it's been done with a humorous twist. There are also deeper and moving moments and sometimes even flashes of symbolism, which give the series that extra dimension. The excellent musical score and the various songs (like the moving ballad "Yakusoku") also contribute substancially.
Some scenes may not be suitable for very young children (there are some sexual references and a few "scary" moments); that is why the series is rated age 12 and up. However, this should not keep you from watching it, because all is brought with light-heartedness and it's really fun to watch!

Very good5
This anime is very good and I highly recommend buying it.

A major downside to buying this though is, in my opinion the ending is to open and doesnt really come to any conclusion, also this DVD only has episodes 1 - 24 of the series, where there is in fact 25. There is also 3 longer episodes which are available on other DVDs so if you do end up liking this (and im sure you will!!) Just be prepared to spend a little extra to keep the story going and hope there is a proper ending!

Better than the books!5
Konnichiwa!
I've been an anime/manga fan for quite a while now and always has been looking for new anime to enjoy, however when I started hearing things about Love Hina I decided to try out the book first too see whats the fuss is all about and oddly enough, I found the series to be more enjoyable than the books. I think for my reasons is because of the Japanese audio it gives it more of a better atmoshpere to it which fits well with the setting, so if your looking for a new anime series to join your dvd collection then "Love Hina" is the way to go!

D Gray Man - Series 1 Part 1 [DVD]

D Gray Man - Series 1 Part 1 [DVD] review

A Hero is only as good as His Enemies Darkness is moving in, and young exorcist Allen Walker is humanity s greatest hope against the wicked forces conspiring to bring civilization to its knees. Akuma - cruel spirits born of tragedy and lost souls - lurk in every shadow, willing and eager to do the bidding of their leader, the dread Millennium Earl. With an eye cursed to see evil in its truest form and blessed with an arm to slay soul-devouring demons, Allen stands ready to confront the gathering storm. Should he fail, Innocence will be lost forever.

My Favourite Anime Series5
I'm not reviewing just this DVD but the whole series; the series has to start somewhere- the first DVD of course!

"Set in a fictional 19th century England, D.Gray-man is the story of Allen Walker, a 15-year-old boy who roams the earth in search of Innocence. Washed away to unknown parts of the world after The Great Flood, Innocence is the mysterious substance used to create weapons that obliterate demons known as akuma." (taken from the blurb of the manga). The Millenium Earl creates the akuma by visiting someone who has lost someone close to them and offers them a chance to bring them back to life. He creates a metal skeleton which is then ordered to kill the person wishing to resurrect them and live as them. They can transform into their natural state (a big metal thing with tons of guns sticking of it, well the Level Ones anyway)and kill. That's where the exorcists come in- to get rid of the akuma. I won't go into the characters because yu have to watch it to find out!

I can not recommend D.Gray-man enough as it is my favourite. You have to check out this anime and buy the other DVDs because you will not regret it. It contains action, comedy, romance (not that much but it is in a comedy way), fantasy, and a bit of horror as well, but if I can watch it then you won't be scared (HATE HORROR!).

The Complete Roots Collection

The Complete Roots Collection: Original Series (30th Anniversary Edition) [DVD]

The Complete Roots Collection: Original Series (30th Anniversary Edition) [DVD]
From Warner Home Video

Price: £8.73 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Delivery. Details

Editorial Reviews

DVD Description
Celebrating 30 years since its TV debut, Roots: The Complete Collection brings together for the first time all the original episodes, sequels and extras of the award-winning series in one box set, comprising Roots: The Original Series 4-Disc Box Set, the 1979 sequel Roots: The Next Generation, and, for the first time on DVD, Roots: The Gift, a movie that focuses on the relationship between two of the slaves of the original series.

Based on Alex Haley's best-selling novel about his African ancestors, the acclaimed US TV mini-series Roots garnered widespread popularity in the 1970s and to this day remains one of the most watched programmes in history, with the ratings for the series finale still the third highest-rated US program of all time, (behind the final episode of MASH and the "Who Shot JR?" episode of Dallas).
Roots follows several generations in the lives of a slave family. The story begins with Kunta Kinte (played by LeVar Burton), a West African youth captured by slave traders and shipped to America in the 1700s. Torn from his homeland, stripped of his dignity, his rights and even his name, in torment and anguish he is brought to the slave markets of the new world. He tries, but fails, to escape before accepting he can never return to Africa. The film traces his life and those of his family, depicted up until the Civil War where Kunte Kinte's grandson gains emancipation. It captures generations of love, tears, pain, strife, sacrifice and happiness, reminding us of the resilience and resource of the human spirit even under crippling injustice. But Roots was more than just a quality drama, it had a wider impact on society. It persuaded American audiences to regard their history from a black perspective, and to see how--against odds far more desperate than those the pilgrims faced--Africans laid claim to their status as free African-Americans. It triggered a craze for genealogy and changed forever the way black people were depicted on TV.

Intelligent comedy5
Gosh! What an extraordinary creation. Brilliantly written, superbly acted - the cast play together so well that the script almost disappears. So funny I hurt from laughing so much. Didn't like it at first. But now, goodness me, I belly laugh at the sweet comedy!! I have fallen in love with it!!

Wonderful Linehan Comedy5
Graham Linehan surely must be one of the most talented comedy writer/directors of recent years. Father Ted, Black Boooks and then this - top quality stuff and good enough to keep you crying with laughter.

I can remember that the first series got a rather tentative write up when it was first aired, and in an interview on the 3rd DVD Linehan even admits that the 1st series didn't quite hit the mark. I can't see it myself - the 1st series is as funny as its successors and benefits from a fair degree of freshness - it's hard to find any reason to criticise it. Perhaps the rather conventional sitcom settings that Linehan produces in his comedy might seem rather unadventurous to the more demanding audience members, but the writing is what makes this so special. Linehan also seems to have a knack of bringing high quality performers into his productions and O'Dowd, Ayoade and Parkinson work wonderfully together. They are well supported by a number of other actors, including Noel Fielding who plays the gloomy goth Richmond and Chris Morris and Matt Berry who play the trio's successive (and appalingly overbearing) bosses.

There are a few extras, including outtakes, deleted scenes, set tours and the like and the Ken Korda (Adam Buxton) documentary on the first disc had me aching with laughter. The 3rd deries interview with Linehan suggets that there's at least one more series to come, which will keep this idiot in suspense fora while.

This stuff just doesn't get old.

"I'm in an ethical pickle!"

Graham Linehan at his best ...5
This show is a must for lovers of Father Ted, Black Books and Big Train. Graham Linehan combines the silliness of Father Ted, with the wit of Fawlty Towers. The show revolves around three IT workers: Roy, a slobby comic book reader, Moss, an 'uber-geek' who lives with his mother, and Jen, the opposite of both of them, who knows nothing about comp-uters.

Graham Linehan's best work, the show is not a repetition of Father Ted or Black Books. Linehan has not recycled his past work, and has given the show a modern twist. All the episodes are unique, and I can hardly say a critical word about them. Series One and Two are the best ones, the third is a little more average but still hilarious. Everyone's favourite seems to be 'Work Outing' in which Roy, Moss and Jen get dragged into a gay musical, and end up impersonating the theatre staff and pretending to be a disabled homosexual just to get home. The worst episode is probably 'Return of the Golden Child', simply because there is more plot than there are jokes.

The episodes are so funny, even the extras are fantastic. The only problem there is is that Richmond, the lovable goth and my favourite character, was absent from the third series. But still, all episodes are certainly worth watching. The DVDs include loads of extras, so once you've finished with the episodes there is still much more.

This is a bargain for the amount of enjoyment you will get out of this, and I would definitely recommend it anyone who enjoyed Linehan's past work.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
A richly-acclaimed World War II drama, and one that deserved the many plaudits it garnered, Band Of Brothers remains as compelling, gripping and moving as it was when it first appeared over half a decade ago. And now it makes a very welcome debut in high definition.

Across ten haunting episodes, Band Of Brothers follows the real-life story of the American army?s Easy Company, an elite paratrooper regiment, from their initial training through to the very end of the war. Along the way, not only do Easy Company take part in some of the most infamous battles and events of the War, but they also suffer many, often brutal losses. And Band Of Brothers pulls no punches in putting those moments across on screen.

But that?s not, ultimately, what Band Of Brothers is about. At it's heart, this is the tale of a group of men relying on one another to get them through unthinkable situations. And this camaraderie is brilliantly put across by the generally unknown cast of actors, many of whom turn in outstanding performances here.

The quality production values are sustained behind the camera, as Band Of Brothers? episodes are directed by the likes of Tom Hanks, Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams) and David Leland (The Devil Wears Prada). The show gives all the impression that little expense was spared in depicting the right visual look, and the results are on screen to be admired.

In short, Band of Brothers remains a vital, brilliant piece of television drama, and one that will stick in your mind long after the credits have rolled on the final episode. --Jon Foster

DVD Description
From Academy Award winners Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, HBO presents the story of Easy Company--an elite team of U.S. paratroopers whose WWII exploits are as incredible as they are true. Based on the bestseller by Stephen E. Ambrose, the epic 10-part miniseries Band of Brothers tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army.

Drawn from interviews with survivors of Easy Company, as well as soldiers' journals and letters, Band of Brothers chronicles the experiences of these men who knew extraordinary bravery and extraordinary fear. They were an elite rifle company parachuting into France early on D-Day morning, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and capturing Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. They were also a unit that suffered vast casualties, and whose lives became legend. They were ordinary men, swept up in the most extraordinary conflict in history. With the eyes of the world upon them, they found their greatest source of strength in one another.

Step Brothers [DVD]

Step Brothers [DVD] [2008]

Step Brothers [DVD] [2008]
Directed by Adam McKay

Price: £3.93 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Delivery. Details

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Crude, juvenile (and proud of it), Step Brothers stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as two 40-year-old men, both living at home and leading the lives of 13-year-old boys, who are thrown together when their single parents (Mary Steenburgen, Parenthood, and Richard Jenkins, Six Feet Under) get married. Brennan (Ferrell) and Dale (Reilly) start out hating each other as only teenage boys can--but things get even worse for their long-suffering parents when they become best friends. Step Brothers gets most of its mileage from very low brow humour, but hidden among the flatulence and masturbation jokes is the suggestion that while these guys may be emotionally arrested, so are Brennan's hotshot business executive brother (Adam Scott, Tell Me You Love Me) and his high-fiving frat boy pals--just in a way that's condoned because it makes money. Also crucial is that Ferrell and Reilly capture adolescence in all its gruesome glory--the awkward insecurity but also the egomaniacal, arrogant self-centeredness. Mind you, this isn't the American version of The 400 Blows or anything. All in all though, Step Brothers combines the adolescent humour of producer Judd Apatow (Superbad, Knocked Up) and the comic chemistry of Ferrell and Reilly (who previously co-starred in Talladega Nights)--fans of either will find plenty to enjoy. --Bret Fetzer
Synopsis
While nearly all Will Ferrell's films are enjoyable on some level, they tend to fire on all cylinders when Adam McKay is involved. McKay co-wrote and directed ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY and TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY, two of Ferrell's most popular and consummately hilarious films. McKay reteamed with not only Ferrell for STEP BROTHERS, but also Ferrell's co-star in TALLADEGA NIGHTS, John C. Reilly, who has steadily proven himself to be one of Hollywood's most versatile actors.

The plot is about as simple as they come: Brennan Huff (Ferrell) and Dale Doback (Reilly) are deadbeat man-children thrown together when the single parents with whom they live marry. The two initially despise one another, but become fast friends over a shared love of ninjas, COPS, porn magazines, and the comforts of living in the fantasy world of a prolonged adolescence. What makes STEPBROTHERS so much fun, however, has nothing to do with story or script; rather, it's McKay's foresight to step back and let Ferrell and Reilly run wild. The duo kick and punch, fart and burp, laugh and cry, yet somehow elevate such banalities to a level of grotesque poetry, hitting upon what feels like an entirely new comedic language. When the pair acts like children, they are not presenting themselves as immature adults, but are literally acting like children, meticulously duplicating everything from the fears and concerns to the speech patterns and awkward physicality of children. It sounds simple enough, but it requires a dexterity and sense of timing and delivery that is actually quite amazing.

Moon [DVD] [2009]
Directed by Duncan Jones

Price: £4.93 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Delivery. Details

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Science fiction can encompass many genres--suspense, horror, action-adventure, romance, even comedy--but director Duncan Jones's Moon doesn't fit neatly into any of them. This smart, provocative film has no aliens or cool spaceships, and the effects (mostly consisting of model vehicles lumbering across the lunar surface) aren't all that special; instead, the material is character- and story-driven, centering on an excellent, multilayered performance by Sam Rockwell. The scene is some undetermined point in the future. Rockwell plays Sam Bell, an employee of Lunar Industries, the company responsible for mining a fusion energy source called Helium-3, which is vital to Earth's efforts to reverse a serious energy crisis and can only be found on the far side of the Moon. Sam is all by himself, and as he nears the end of his three-year contract, the solitude is starting to get to him ("Three years is a long haul," he says. "Way, way, way too long. I'm talking to myself on a regular basis"); his only contact with his wife and daughter back home comes through the occasional video messages he exchanges with them, while his sole interaction on the Moon is with GERTY 3000, a computer voiced by Kevin Spacey (and an obvious parallel to 2001: A Space Odyssey's HAL 9000). Things start to go seriously sideways when Sam crashes his vehicle while out inspecting one of the giant Helium-3 harvesters. He comes to in the base infirmary, seemingly none the worse for the wear; but an unnerving surprise awaits him when he goes back to check out the accident site, and the resulting complications occupy the rest of the movie. Fans of 2001, Solaris, and other cerebral sci-fi will enjoy figuring out what's going on; others will find it slow-moving and tedious. Either way, Moon, which was made quickly and on a relatively low budget, is well worth a look. --Sam Graham

Synopsis
Sam Rockwell (Matchstick Men) stars in this thought-provoking science fiction film. After spending three years on the moon as a solitary miner, Sam Bell (Rockwell) is almost ready to return home to his wife and daughter. But as his homecoming approaches, he begins to experience strange things that can't be explained and his employer may have a sinister plan in mind for him. Moon is the directorial debut of commercial helmer Duncan Jones.

The DVD comes with two commentary soundtracks, with the audio button allowing viewers to cycle through the film without commentary, with a commentary from the writer and director, or with a commentary from the writer, director and producer.
